The Gallery

This project started as a photojournalistic study in finding one’s legacy, expressing oneself, and cultivating self-confidence. We conducted pre-interviews, followed by photoshoots, and later, much longer interviews. Throughout this process, tears flowed – mine included. We shared a journey filled with emotion and empowerment. Our studio created space for women to experience joy for the sake of joy. Artist and subject, we shared a common belief: art for art’s sake is valuable and essential.

Beyond beautiful photos, this project challenged societal norms by celebrating women over 40 in a world that often encourages dread over aging. So many women fear milestone ages, be it 40, 50, 60 or beyond. Our hope is that these portraits show us the vibrant beauty of life after 40. It was a rebellious act of self-expression for our participants and a personal commitment to creating the art I longed to see in the world.

As the project’s creator, I aspire to continue this journey year after year, and join the purposeful artists who seek to create work that has a positive impact on our community.
